"Fou rire prodromique" heralding a brainstem stroke.

A patient manifested pathological laughter heralding the onset of brainstem stroke leading to a "locked-in" state. The pathological laughter did not recur. MRI revealed a bilateral ventral pontine infarct. The clinico-anatomical correlations of this rare phenomenon of fou rire prodromique are discussed.

Ischemic Stroke in a Young Patient Heralding a Left Ventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy

Strokes in young patients may be the clinical expression of many complex and extremely rare diseases. Uncommon causes constitute less than 5% of all strokes, but are present in 30% of strokes in young patients. We report the case of a young woman whose ischemic stroke led to the diagnosis of a rare embolic cardiomyopathy, left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy, requiring a heart transplant.

Epidermoid Causing Ischemic Stroke in the Brainstem

Intracranial tumors may rarely cause stroke. We report an epidermoid cyst causing stroke in a pediatric patient. We have also reviewed the literature and pathogenesis of stroke caused by intracranial tumors.
